Mr Subramaniam has a Masters Degree in Ophthalmology from Mangalore University and has worked in the UK since 1987.
He has been a Senior and then Specialist Registrar at Charing Cross and Moorfields Eye hospital.
He has also held posts as Fellow to the Anterior Segment and Medical Retina Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Mr Subramaniam was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist to Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust in 1999, where in addition to general ophthalmic responsibilities he was actively involved in the training of registrars and senior house officers.
Since completing his training in refractive surgery in 2001, Mr Subramaniam has carried out more than a thousand refractive surgical procedures in the UK.
Procedures include LASIK, LASEK, RLE (refractive lens exchange), PRELEX and Phakic IOL implantation as well as cataract and glaucoma surgery.
He has been trained and certified by Alcon in the use of the Ladarvision Laser, with Bausch and Lomb with the Technolas Laser and by Nidek with the EC5000CXII Laser.
He is also certified in the use of wave front scanning technologies.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (1990).
His commitment to the profession has led to his appointment as College Tutor and Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Subramaniam is also actively involved with the charity, "Second sight" providing free cataract surgery to poor rural villagers in Northern India. (www.secondsight.org.uk)
