Mr Abdul Rauf - Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon FRCOphth
Mr. Rauf is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow (1989) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (1990)
He is currently Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Burton NHS trust and Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Queen’s hospital Burton.
Prior to his appointment as a Consultant, Mr Rauf spent 5 years at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London as a Research Fellow (1994 to 1996) and then a Specialist Registrar (1996 to 1999). His breadth of experience encompasses all aspects of ophthalmic speciality (Anterior segment, glaucoma, medical retina, adnexal, vitreo-retinal, strabismus, neuro and paediatric ophthalmology).
Mr Rauf has consistently been involved in tutoring and teaching. From 2000 to 2005 he was college tutor and education committee member for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He currently organises departmental teaching and audit at the Queen’s hospital. The teaching sessions involve Specialist Registrars, Senior House officers and other departmental staff. These post graduate teaching programmes includes tutorials, journal clubs, case presentations, grand rounds and formal lectures.
Mr Rauf currently performs approximately 1,000 surgical operations annually of which nearly 500 are cataract operations. He regularly attends International and annual meetings of the RCO and Royal Society of Medicine.
