There are many languages around the world, and each one of them has its unique features, words and grammar solutions. They are part of our cultural heritage as human beings, and they allow people to communicate with each other, share ideas and create new things together. However, they can also be barrier, because we can't exchange our thoughts when we don't share the same language. In order to establish cultural and economical bridges between all people in the world, we must find a way to share the same language, and that's the role that English has taken.
People from almost all the countries of the world study English in order to get ahead, access new educational and job possiblilities, expand their cultural experience and open up doors to new people. It's a process of personal growth that is sometimes overlooked, and it shouldn't be. Luckily, more and more people from all educational levels and social spheres are starting to see the true importance of mastering the English language, or at least acquiring enough proficiency to make use of it in order to reach their goals or even imagine new ones. People flow to English academies and courses, and every year millions of students engage in the study of this language. This has created a rising demand in English courses and institutions must face said demand with proper offers of qualified techers and proper study programmes. However, not in all places there are all needed resources available for this purpose. This is originating a constructive crisis and new demands must be met via an internal institutional reorganization.
One of the key aspects of being able to respond to this increasing demand is having enough teachers for all the incoming students. These teachers must be proficient in English, and yes, this might sound like a no brainer, but in fact, in some places there aren't enough qualified educators to meet the demand. In order to avoid poor quality results, they must be trained by knowledgeable and proficient English teachers.
Usual high-level English courses have proven to be quite ineffective when it comes to professional training. These courses are usually short and there is plenty of usage of the trainees' native language, which doesn't help them acquire English proficiency. A new model of language course, known as "immersion course", is gaining more and more recognision. In this sort of study programmes, students aren't allowed to use their native tongue, and instead they are placed among native English speakers to whom they must speak in English literally all day long. Immersion courses have proven to be much more effective than traditional English courses for langauge proficiency, and for that reason they are becoming increasingly popular. Even English teachers are trying immersion courses in order to develop their own skills.
The British Council is offering educational aid for many institutions who want to increase their teachers' proficiency in the language they teach. The decision has been made, and now the British Council will train foreign English teachers by sending their own educators. This programme will consist in a 6-weeks-long immersion course and then a follow-up a few months later.
English is an important language whether or not you are in an English-speaking country. This language becomes far more important for the higher education areas, like college and qualified work. Developing your English skills will certainly open up doors for you that remain closed for many others, and there is an increasing awareness about this matter, which then results in a growing demand of English courses for students and graduates.
In English-speaking countries, the need to develop these langauge skills is far more obvious. In fact, in countries like the United States, there are English courses and tests for entering college. English skills for University admission are a key aspect of a student's preparation, and in countries with high levels of immigration like the US, the demand is massive. These are the challenges that educational instutions with at least some interest in integration and expansion of knowledge have to face.
Even people who live non English-speaking countries need to develop their English skills in order to progress in their work. Universities in many countries offer langauge training aimed to improve their students' job opportunities in the future. Even after said students leave college, their education continues. In the last few months, an initiative of a course on Communication Skills in English for Indian graduates has been taking place, since this is one of the countries where English is more highly requested.
